The owner and driver of Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS 5491-13, attempted to bribe a Police Highway Patrol Team with an amount of over ⸿16,000.00 when Police found more than three sack-full of substances believed to be Indian hemp on the vehicle, on the Accra-Tema Motorway stretch today.
The Patrol Team on its operation dubbed “Operation Intensive Stop and Search” found the three sacks together with 113 parcels mixed together with bagged okro. Upon interrogation, the driver insisted that the sacks were loaded with okro to be delivered in Accra.
However, when the driver was told that he’s being arrested for carrying banned substances, he and the owner of the substance offered the Patrol Team with an amount ⸿16,460 as bribery but the Team refused the bribe and arrested the two.
Five other persons have also been arrested in connection with the substance found in the vehicle.
