POLICE COUNCIL

Ghana’s Constitution establishes a Police Council which advises the President of Ghana on matters of policy relating to internal security including budgeting, administration and promotion of Police Officers above the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Membership of the Police Council is ten (10). They are:

The Vice-President who is the chairman – H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Minister for the Interior- Hon. Ambrose Dery.

The Inspector-General of Police

The Attorney-General or representative;

A Lawyer nominated by the Ghana Bar Association;

A representative of the Retired Senior Police Officers Association;

A representative of the Senior Rank of the Police Service;

A representative of the Junior Rank of the Police Service;

Two other members appointed by the President.
