DIRECTOR-GENERAL, NATIONAL PATROL DEPARTMENT (NPD)

The Director-General, NPD shall be responsible to the Inspector-General of Police for the following matters:

  1. The general supervision and coordination of Community Policing (CP) and Visibility Patrol (VP) personnel including all Regional Community Policing and Visibility Patrol Units;
  2. Facilitate the establishment and coordination of Community Security networks (Community Watch Committees) to prevent crime;
  3. Liaise with the appropriate agency and coordinate the recruitment of Community Police Assistants (CPAs) through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA);
  4. Liaise with traditional leaders and other community stakeholders to enhance Police visibility and accessibility;
  5. Coordinate and collaborate with Regional Commanders for the smooth administration and operation of the CP and VP Units within the Regions;
  6. Formulation of policies regarding the effective and efficient performance of NPD in line with general Service goals;
  7. Conducting research into emerging challenges in the patrol system;
  8. Developing specialist training intervention for CP and VP personnel to bridge the needs gap of relevant stakeholders;
  9. Revamping and streamlining the operations of the Regional/Divisional and District CP and Visibility Patrol Unit and ensure their sustainability;
  10. Make recommendations periodically on the procurement of relevant uniforms and other logistics for the Department;
  11. Liaise with Director-General, Public Affairs Department (PAD) for the formulation of Community Relations Policy for consideration of the Police Administration and subsequent adoption;
  12. Any other duty as assigned by the IGP.
