Accra Regional Police Commander Boosts Officers’ Morale

The Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP/Mr. George Alex Mensah has encouraged the rank-and-file of the region to up their game in the wake of recent happenings in the service.

Addressing over Six-Hundred (600) Police officers of the Command on Tuesday, 24th July, 2018, the Regional Police Commander admonished the men to observe high standards of professionalism, courtesy and respect for citizens’ right in the discharge of their duties.

This comes in response of some incidents which occurred within a week period that turn to question the professionalism and high-handedness of police officers in their combat operations.

The first occurrence was the shooting of 7 suspected armed robbers at Manso-Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, with the second being the video showing a Police officer assaulting a woman at Midland Savings and Loans in Accra. The third occurrence was the inadvertent shooting of a bullion van driver by a Police officer in his attempt to restore order during a funeral procession at Krobo-Odumase in the Eastern Region.

According to the Accra Regional Police Commander, he observed that the morale of personnel especially those on operational duties was dwindling due to barrage of criticisms, condemnations and attacks on Police officers by the media (both traditional and social) and the general public, prompting him to step in to save the situation.

In his admonition, he cautioned the men against acts that turn to bring the name of the service into disrepute, stressing on the need for the Police to respect the citizenry, as respect is reciprocal. “If the Police respect the public, the public will equally reciprocate,” he said

The Regional Commander, in his final words, cautioned the men against complacency in difficult situations but to rather call for a backup whenever the situations demand.
