The Upper West Regional Police Headquarters is located at Wa. The name of the current police commander is Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCOP/Mr. Kwadwo Boapea Otchere, with Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP/Mr.Peter Ndekugri as the regional deputy commander.

There are about eleven (11) Districts and nine (9) Units within the Upper West Region handling specific responsibilities. The Units are as follows:

  1. Criminal Investigations Department (CID)
  2. Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU)
  3. Visibility Patrols Unit (VPU)
  4. Rapid Deployment Force (RDF)
  5. Highway Patrol Unit (HPU)
  6. Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)
  7. Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU)
  8. Court Unit
  9. Communications

The Region is made up of three [3] Divisions namely:

  1. Lawra Division
  2. Tumu Division
  3. Wa Division

And the Ghana is fortunate that the members of our police service are all honourable men and women, dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of our community. They sacrifice of their time, their talents….and sometimes their very own lives.
On this page we honour several brave and dedicated men from the Ghana Police Service: men and women who – in dangerous situations – were reaching out to help those in need of their services and ultimately paid the ultimate sacrifice. It is with great honor that we dedicate this section to them – to let their families know that who they were, and what they stood for, remains steadfast in our hearts and our minds. We are proud to call them our brothers and sisters. We will be forever thankful that they chose to serve their country.
